UNIT 9 Final Project
Design a Cereal Box
This is a very extensive project and will take a lot of time to make correctly.
Decide on a theme that you will carry out both visually and verbally.
See Mr. Vincent for Design Packet.
Take a quick look at this link. It has some information about the psychological points in cereal box Design.:
Eyes in the cereal aisle
Cereal Description
Write an 100-125 word paragraph which will appear on the side panel of the cereal box. Use a word processing program and save the file! TRIPLE SPACE, RUN SPELL CHECK, and print it out. The paragraph needs to do three things:
1. DESCRIBE THE PRODUCT: What’s in the box? Flakes? O’s? Spheres? Is it made out of corn, wheat, bran or fish pellets? What’s it taste like? Are there marshmallows? Is it sweet? Unsweetened?
2. PROMOTE THE PRODUCT: Sell it. Keep it positive. Why should the consumer buy this product? What are its benefits? What will this cereal do for the consumer? Is it healthy? Will it make their teeth whiter? Will it give them energy?
3. CRAM THE THEME DOWN OUR THROATS: Lay it on thick and heavy! Replace ordinary adjectives and verbs with theme based adjectives and verbs.
EXAMPLE:
Pirates Treasure
Every bite of these crispy, golden flakes is just as delicious as the first. You will be on your way to a great day of adventure when your bowl of cereal in your golden bowl.
Enjoy this amazing multi grain lightly sweetened treasure with 10 essential vitamins and minerals, and feel the power inside you! Now it is your time to sail the mighty ocean, are you ready?
Logo Design
The logo is the most important element on the box. Trust me. Begin in Illustrator for general layout. Transfer into Photoshop for embellishment.
When designing your Logo it will make life easier if you design with layers.

Use the following Cereal Box Template to help you design your project. The template should fit on a 13x19" art board. When adjusting the size hold the shift button (DO NOT STRETCH TO FIT THE ENTIRE PAGE) there will be space on the ends of the page.
The front of the box will address the following:

You can use these Brand Logos if you choose or you can create your own.
Cereal Bowls:
You can use these images or you can use your own. If you choose to use your own you will need to set a time to arrange the photograph session.
Characters:
You can choose any character you wish to have on your cereal box. If you do a Google search make sure you are specific to the type of character you are looking for. ie. pirate, horse, cowboy etc.
Make sure your search settings are set to highest quality image.

The back of the box will address the following considerations:
- Keep the consumer occupied for 5 to 10 minutes
- Creative activity or activities
- Visual hierarchy
- Reality check - we have a finite amount of time as well as limited resources
- Requirements - manufacturer's logo, cereal Name logo
