UNIT 7 - Label Design
Bottle Graphic Assignment
THIS WILL BE DONE IN 3 SECTIONS!
Section 1:
1st – Designing a company:
- - Design a logo for the company making the product.
- - You will be designing a label for a 2 liquid beverages.
- - Have them relate to each other, (like two flavors of Snapple).
- - Design a label including UPC (The Universal Product Code (UPC) is a barcode)
- - Include all ingredients nutritional information, recycling, fluid oz, calories, company name (manufacturing information) and any other pertinent information that pertains to the product.
- - The idea behind this is to make it marketable (something that could actually sell).
- - Think about what kinds of drinks are out there, what makes them innovative, interesting and something you would want to drink. (No Alcohol)
- - You must have a dozen (12) or more sketches in your sketchbook before you begin on the computer.
Materials needed:
You must find a bottle or can and bring in into class. You will
need to measure the surface that your label will cover,
diameter and height.
Concept:
Have a clear concise and imaginative idea and go with it.
Think about color schemes, symbols and design concepts
that will best enhance your product. Determine if the label
will be solid color or transparent or have any cut out sections to it.
Marketing Information:
- Name of Beverage: _
- Type of Beverage (flavor):
- Special ingredients or what makes this beverage different or special?
- How did you come up with the name of the beverage?
- Why is it you think this will appeal to buyers?
- What is your “target audience”?
- What type of marketing cost will you have for your two ads? (you can find this information on the internet) LINK
- Why will your advertising reach your target audience?
This must be original, do not copy any other product names or
designs.
The labels will be printed and placed on the bottle.
All the information that you would expect to find on a “real” product
must be on your label.
Look at your “real bottle label and see what is there
(nutrition info., bar code, ingredients, manufacturer, is it recyclable?,
etc.)
Make it look real!

The second half of the assignment is to promote
your product.
Advertising
Take the Marketing Plan and design or create the types of
advertisements you will use. Use your sketchbook!
Must have 2 different advertisements. These are open to
your creativity.
Perhaps you could team up with a film student to create a
real commercial !?
You can use Illustrator or Photoshop or Both.
Section 3:
Product Placement
Now that you have created your advertisements you need to place that advertisement into a real life situation using Photoshop.
